The List

Untitled #25

I go through spurts when it comes to reading with interest typically spiking in the winter months, when my desire to be in the great outdoors is pretty much slim to none. Come summer, it’s about all I can do to get myself to curl up with a good book, aside from some light reading before bed.

Even though it’s going to be a balmy 70 degrees here in Kansas City today (!!!) I’m not delusional to the fact that I’ve still got an ample amount of time to add a few more books to my list. That and the fact that there is snow in our five-day forecast.

I normally gravitate toward fiction, generally getting sucked into whatever is trendy at the moment – a la Divergent and The Hunger Games. I’m making my way through Amy Poehler’s Yes Please for our next #BookClubBlogger meet up, but knowing I have Big Little Lies on deck is making it hard not to dig in. Moriarty was so captivating in The Husbands Secret and word on the street says this one is just as good. Have you read it? Erin and Victoria have both talked about the book 10% Happier and from the sounds of it, there is a lesson to be learned. I haven’t forgotten that Elements of Style is sitting pretty on my TV console. Instead of casually flipping through the pages, I need to make the time to read it cover to cover.

What’s on your nightstand at the moment? Have you read any of these books or have any others you would like to share?

If you’re looking for a few other (motivational) reads to add to your arsenal, check out these posts on Dream Year#GIRLBOSS and Lean In.

If you haven’t read “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins you must. It is seriously SO good. I read the whole thing in 2 days last week. It is kind of Gone Girl-esque, and definitely impossible to put down!

  4. I loved The Husband’s Secret! Laurie picked it out for our book club, and it was a great read! I’ve been debating about reading Amy Poehler’s book because I heard the audio book version is really good. I’m currently reading Catch-22 and $100 Startup!

I just got an email yesterday that Big Little Lies was ready for me to download to my iPad! I’m still waiting for Yes Please..I think I’m #10 in line for it, so hopefully I can get to it before the book club! Right now I’m listening to Sharp Objects, I started it around Christmas but didn’t get through it before it was due back.

  20. I read a ton of blogs — many of them lifestyle or cooking blogs, but most of them are book blogs, since that’s basically my job. I always find it so fascinating to see what average readers are putting on hold at the library or buying for themselves. I’m really excited about Kelly Link’s new short story collection, Get in Trouble and My Sunshine Away by M. O. Walsh. Happy reading!
