I go through spurts when it comes to reading with interest typically spiking in the winter months, when my desire to be in the great outdoors is pretty much slim to none. Come summer, it’s about all I can do to get myself to curl up with a good book, aside from some light reading before bed.
Even though it’s going to be a balmy 70 degrees here in Kansas City today (!!!) I’m not delusional to the fact that I’ve still got an ample amount of time to add a few more books to my list. That and the fact that there is snow in our five-day forecast.
I normally gravitate toward fiction, generally getting sucked into whatever is trendy at the moment – a la Divergent and The Hunger Games. I’m making my way through Amy Poehler’s Yes Please for our next #BookClubBlogger meet up, but knowing I have Big Little Lies on deck is making it hard not to dig in. Moriarty was so captivating in The Husbands Secret and word on the street says this one is just as good. Have you read it? Erin and Victoria have both talked about the book 10% Happier and from the sounds of it, there is a lesson to be learned. I haven’t forgotten that Elements of Style is sitting pretty on my TV console. Instead of casually flipping through the pages, I need to make the time to read it cover to cover.
What’s on your nightstand at the moment? Have you read any of these books or have any others you would like to share?
If you’re looking for a few other (motivational) reads to add to your arsenal, check out these posts on Dream Year, #GIRLBOSS and Lean In.
10% Happier // Big Little Lies // Elements of Style // Yes Please // #GIRLBOSS // Lean In // The Husbands Secret
If you haven’t read “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins you must. It is seriously SO good. I read the whole thing in 2 days last week. It is kind of Gone Girl-esque, and definitely impossible to put down!
I like the sounds of that!! Gone Girl sucked me in and I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning reading it.
Yes Please is definitely on my list. Amy Poehler is one of my favorite ladies in comedy. Right now, I’m currently reading Wild. I’m enjoying it and would totally recommend it 🙂
I’ve heard that’s a goodie. I don’t like seeing movies before I read the book so I need to get on it 😉
I read Big Little Lies. It was great, and apparently going to be made into a movie!
I loved The Husband’s Secret! Laurie picked it out for our book club, and it was a great read! I’ve been debating about reading Amy Poehler’s book because I heard the audio book version is really good. I’m currently reading Catch-22 and $100 Startup!
The $100 sounds intriguing…I’d like to do some more living 🙂
I just got an email yesterday that Big Little Lies was ready for me to download to my iPad! I’m still waiting for Yes Please..I think I’m #10 in line for it, so hopefully I can get to it before the book club! Right now I’m listening to Sharp Objects, I started it around Christmas but didn’t get through it before it was due back.

For whatever reason, I couldn’t get into Sharp Objects. I need to try again! My grandma said it was really good.
I might have to pick up this 10% Happier book! I’m really into self help books right now, I really want to get the new DVF book called the Woman I Wanted To Be. 🙂
So am I! Oh, that sounds like a goodie!
I can’t believe I haven’t read #GIRLBOSS yet! I should probably replace my Netflix addiction with reading 😉

I think that’s easier said that done 😉
Lovee Big Little Lies! If you haven’t read her other book “What Alice Forgot” I highly recommend picking up that book next. It was one of my favorite reads of 2014.

I didn’t know she wrote that one, too!
On my nightstand now is Wild, Shopaholic to the Stars and The One and Only!
So. many. books. I want to read them all!
“The Girl on the Train” is next on my list, I think I need to read “The Husband’s Secret” too since I liked “Big Little Lies”.
And boo on the snow forecast!!
The Clean Project
Someone else just said this was a good book, so I need to check it out as well!
Hi! I’m currently reading a few books…Where She Went (2nd book of If I Stay), The Blue Bistro and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People…. I have Big Little Lies loaded on my Kindle ready to read, eager as well! Let us know how 10% Happier is. I’m intrigued!
Ooo, the 7 Habits book sounds right up my alley! I will for sure..I’ve just got to make it through my list to get to it! haha
I feel SO out of the loop because I had no idea about the decor book and it looks UHMAZING Jess.

If you don’t want to buy them, check the library! That’s where I get most of mine 🙂
Loved loved loved Big Little Lies! It was the first one I had picked up from Moriarty, & I’m hooked.
I can’t wait to start it! I wish I didn’t have so many books I want to read right now. I can’t keep up 😉
I have been reading up a storm lately! I’m working my way through Insurgent currently, with plans to read through Yes Please next! After that, who knows. I have so many books I want to read, it makes it difficult to decide at times!
Same here! My list is never ending. Insurgent was so good 🙂
I love the Elements of Style book! I’ve heard really amazing things about 10% Happier. I’m adding it to my reading list 🙂
Yes yes yes to Yes, Please! Just listened to it and loved it! I am intrigued by 10% Happier – off to look that up!
Will you be joining us for the virtual book club next week?! We’re discussing Yes, Please!
Monday is my husbands birthday or else I would totally be there! Have fun!
I read a ton of blogs — many of them lifestyle or cooking blogs, but most of them are book blogs, since that’s basically my job. I always find it so fascinating to see what average readers are putting on hold at the library or buying for themselves. I’m really excited about Kelly Link’s new short story collection, Get in Trouble and My Sunshine Away by M. O. Walsh. Happy reading!
Oh, thank you for sharing these with me! I’m going to look into them for sure 🙂
