stripes are always a good idea

Hi there, I’m Jess and I’m so glad you’re here! I’m flattered that you want to get to know me a little better (if you stumbled across this page on accident, just pretend I never said that). But really, knowing that people actually read my blog posts make the late nights and early mornings all worthwhile. From the bottom of my margarita glass heart, thank you.

26 and Not Counting is the place where I catalog everything that inspires me from fashion to beauty to travel and so on. However, it is a lifestyle blog and you can expect to find a hefty amount of life happenings sprinkled in the mix.

Writing about myself in the third person has always freaked me out a bit – plus there’s the fact that I’m just not good at it, so I’ll spare you. I figured the best way to make this happen would be with a casual conversation….

Back in July 2013 I accepted a new position in Marketing and turned 26 all in the span of a few weeks. It was the wake up call I needed and a reminder that there is no better time than the present to start the things we daydream about.

The name came about quite organically – nothing to write home about. Like I said, I had just turned 26. But I started to notice a trend in the way I was approaching birthdays. The thrill was replaced with dread and I knew it wasn’t a healthy mindset to be in. I’m learning to appreciate each and every year as it comes and I can honestly say, they keep getting better and better.

Blogging was, and still is, my escape. It has forced me to grow in ways that I couldn’t have imagined and I’ve learned so much about myself through the process.

When it comes down to it, I blog about my life: the who, what, wear. You can also expect to find pieces on wellness and a hefty dose of Chicago happenings. The possibilities are endless, really, which is what makes being a lifestyle blogger so rewarding!

It’s true, I was cursed with the palate of a 5-year-old. If you think the fact that I don’t like coffee is weird, you would be so shocked to know I’ve never eaten a hamburger…or ketchup. And a slew of other things that I’m too embarrassed to admit. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love to eat!

I wish I could tell you that losing weight was easy, or that I cut out carbs and the weight melted off like ice cream in the hot summer sun, but it didn’t. I worked my ass off at the gym, literally. Fitness is a huge part of my life and if I have to run a few extra miles on Saturday morning for that mini loaf I indulged in the night before, so be it.

Instagram! I’m also a big fan of Snapchat (find me by searching ‘jessicazimlich’) and the lack of filter on the platform.

GUILTY PLEASURES (Okay, so no one has actually asked me this, but why not?…)
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. Chips & white queso. The Big Bang Theory.

So there you have it. I hope you’ll pour yourself a drink and stay for a while – you deserve it!
