Weekly Rounds Vol. 37

Happy Friday, everyone! How was your week? Good? Bad? Somewhere in between?
wedding inspiration

This week seemed like a bit of a blur and looking back, I’m not sure I got a whole lot accomplished other than getting through the workweek, a quick workout class on Wednesday and a few evening walks. We’re heading back to Topeka tonight to spend some time quality time with our families (which translates to catching them up to speed on all the crazy behind-the-scenes I’ve been eluding to over the past month) and generally, just taking it easy!

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the algorithm updates taking place on Instagram. If not, get the lowdown here. My friend Annie reminded me of a unique feature which allows you to turn post notifications on! So, if you don’t want any snaps missing from your feed, simply go to a photo on the account, tap the arrow in the right hand corner and select “Turn On Post Notifications” to get notified every time that person posts. And of course, you can find me on Instagram here.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, I’ve got a nice little round up of links I’m excited to share with you! Dig in..

AROUND THE WEB/WORLD:

  • Wedding inspiration from the gorgeous Whitney Port. Did you expect anything less?
  • Working from your calendar, opposed to a to-do list, is said to increase productivity.
  • I’ve been in a bit of a workout rut as of late and I’ve been toying with the idea of trying the Kayla Itsines workout regime. Have you tried it?
  • I admire Elizabeth’s honesty (see “best beauty secret”) in her recent interview with Ambitious Kitchen.
  • Everything Sally and Molly (A Piece of Toast) have hit publish on over the past few weeks/months has been super inspiring to me. The revival of a few of their columns has me wanting to commit to more in this space.
  • Bloggers/freelancers: I’m a firm believer in outsourcing where needed and taxes definitely aren’t my forte. I worked with a tax accountant for creatives this time around and can’t recommend Amy enough!

SHOP ‘TIL YA DROP:

  • I got my first pair of Henry & Belle flare jeans (thanks to the gals over at Kel & Kate) and I can’t begin to tell you how confident I feel in them! So insanely flattering.
  • This saddle bag with tassels looks so high end, but will only set you back a cool $34 – which means you can hit “add to cart” guilt-free.
  • Give me all the ginghamSwimsuits, cover-ups, flats – you name it.
  • I’ve only been carrying this bag for a week now and I’ve received so many compliments on it! Pretty sure it’s the punchy guava color that gets everyone’s attention.

Did you read or write anything share-worthy this week? If so, pop a link down in the comments!

p/s I checked with my Nana and she confirmed she has 16 jars of Vaseline strategically placed around her house.

As usual, I’ll be sharing tidbits from the weekend over on Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat (jessicazimlich) and Facebook!

I gave up on a piece of toast for a while, but I will check them again because of your rec. Whitney looked absolutely gorgeous in that dress.

Most definitely! For now, I might incorporate the circuits I linked in this post and add that to what I’m already doing. I will keep you posted 🙂

I made it through 8 weeks of Kayla and then pulled a muscle in my back (not from the workout) and had to call it quits for a while. It’s an awesome workout, but there were a lot of the movements I hadn’t mastered. I say give it a whirl! I saw minimal change in the 9 weeks, but I also wasn’t following a strict diet either. 🙂

8 weeks is impressive, but that’s no good that you got injured! Nothing worse than being forced to sit out exercise. I wouldn’t follow that strict of a diet either 😉 I love carbs/cheese too much!

    Hey Jess, long time!
I’ve started the Kayla Itsines program before and only got a few weeks in before it fell by the wayside. I’ve now started again and I’m just at the end of the first week. A couple of tips: I found it incredibly difficult to start with, and I thought I was fit. I could barely move two days after the first work out! Invest in a foam roller if you don’t already have one, and take the time to stretch. She gives you 3 x HIIT workouts a week and recommends 2-3 low intensity steady state cardio sessions as well. Sounds like a lot, but the LISS sessions are really important to stay limber after the really really hard HIIT sessions. Also I found that the idea behind the program is sometimes easier to incorporate than the program itself. I don’t like being on such a rigid schedule and like to mix it up a bit, so the approach of 4 x 7 minute sets with 1 minute rest between, a couple of times a week plus some running and a dance class was much easier for me to stick to and enjoy. Thinking after this essay of a comment that I should do a post on my experiences of BBG – would you be interested in reading? x

Hey Amy! I was just perusing your blog last night and I’m happy to see you’re getting back to it. 🙂 I think that’s what I’m most afraid of…being so sore that I have to sit out for two days after when I’d prefer to be active most days! Thank you so much for the tips – I really appreciate it and will take them to heart.

I would absolutely love to read more about your experiences!

  7. I keep seeing that snap of Whitney Port pop up around the internet and each time I’m more and more in awe of it! Seriously amazing wedding inspo!

P.S. It sounds like your Nana should be an honorary part owner of Vaseline! 16 jars has to be a world record 😉
