One of the best parts about living in Kansas City are the First Fridays events, hands down. On the first Friday of every month, the Crossroads Art District fills with tons of amazingly talented locals showcasing their goods and services. The streets fill with food trucks, street vendors and musicians, while the doors of shops and studios are left open to the community for perusing.
Last weekend was the big summer kick-off and it was the best time! I attended the 8183 Studio pop-up shop knowing that Hello Cheeseburger and a few other of my local faves would be there.
My love for Hello Cheeseburger started months ago, but I was wowed by the colors highlighted in some of their newest handmade goods! I also fell in love with a necklace stamped with a very special f word, reserved for days like the one I had last week. That has now been added to my never-ending want list.
While I browsed the jewels and sipped a local brew, my good friend Whitney couldn’t resist picking up a few things from Sandlot Goods and Wood + Salt. How she left without one of the geometric printed throws from Happy Habitat, I just don’t know.
I had my heart set on buying a pair of earrings from Lily Dawson Designs after I first saw her work at Skyline Downtown Salon. If I had a million dollars, I would have bought up everything on the table! Her work is exquisite and I’m so excited to be featuring Lily on the blog in the coming weeks.
This is probably going to come as no surprise to you, but I love photo booths. The setup by Blixt Photography was perfect and I had so much fun with all of these gorgeous gals!

I have minor regret that I didn’t pick up “The Heart” tee from Ocean & Sea, but that’s what online shopping is for, right?
Shopping local and supporting the community I live in is becoming more and more important to me. It’s amazing to see small businesses thrive and I’m excited for more First Fridays events this summer!
