Go Blog Social // Day Two

Heyyyy, I’m back! I’ve got one more round up for you from Go Blog Social. Day two was just as fabulous as day one so let’s get started!

How To Brand Yourself Online by Lauren Felix of La Petite Fashionista and LPF Media
Lauren is the absolute sweetest. She knocked my socks off with her tips and tricks on branding and made me realize I’ve got some serious work to do! Defining my brand is one of the biggest things I want to work on in the coming months.

Feeling less than inspired? Lauren suggests a brain dump. Next time I’m in a rut I’m going to break out the pen and paper and jot down every single word that comes to mind for several minutes, take a break and then come back to review what ended up on the paper!

Blogging For Brands by Crystal Wiebe of Staples and Beer Paws
“85% of corporate blogs have five posts or less.” Crystal’s “make it happen” attitude lit a fire under my ass. If I want something I’m going to have to go out and find it or ask for it, just like she did. I truly enjoyed her presentation on blogging in the corporate world. It got me thinking about some of my favorite brands so I checked to see if they had blogs. Much to my surprise, several of them had them, but they hadn’t posted in months or even years!

Monetizing Your Blog by Dan Morris of Letters From Dan
My biggest takeaway from Dan’s presentation came from when he said, “your voice sells.” I think it’s so so important to never compromise your voice and who you really are, no matter what you’re talking about or who’s backing your post.

Creating Original Content by Matt and Emily Walters of Handmaker of Things and Middle of the Map Weddings
Emily provided some great information on how to make content your own. I heard several times this weekend that everything has pretty much been done before, but there are ways to switch it up and put your own twist on things to make it unique.

DIY Blogging by Erin Souder of House of Earnest
Erin’s a DIY pro and she taught me that I need to show people a reason to make the project I’m showcasing. For instance, if you’re creating DIY bookends, show the finished product on a shelf in your home with some of your favorite reads nestled in between them. People are much more likely to recreate a project if they can envision it being used. My current apartment set up doesn’t offer much counter top space, but that doesn’t mean I can’t create my own. I especially liked her marble slab idea to photograph projects on.

Keynote: How To Pitch To a Magazine by Kaelin Zawilinski of Better Homes and Gardens
After hearing from Kaelin on how bloggers like myself can work with magazines to produce great content together it got me thinking about other magazines I read monthly. I’ve subscribed to several magazines for years now, but it was until I started blogging that I really noticed the people being featured in magazines were just like me!

Kendra Scott mint earrings
The BHG team gave us each a copy of their April issue which was full of so many inspiring articles. I was also lucky enough to win these gorgeous mint earrings by Kendra Scott from Bella Bridesmaids!
My partners in crime Ashley and Shanley

If you asked me what my favorite part of the whole conference was, it would hands down be the amazing people I connected with. There were several ladies I had been following along with online and it was so exciting to finally put a REAL face to the name and blog! I’m so happy to have met so many great gals (MayaLaurenAlex, Kari and Emily). Two days was simply not enough when it comes to the bonding and networking. There were so many people I wish I could have spent more time with and with that being said, my couch is always open here in Kansas City!
