10 Things You May Not Know About Me

I love getting to know other people and that’s one of the greatest things I’ve taken away from this blog so far. I thought it would be fun to come up with a list of 10 things you may not know about me and give you the opportunity to tell me a little about yourself as well!

10 Things by 26 and Not Counting
Take me back to Panama City Beach, please.
1. I’m the world’s pickiest eater. I don’t eat hamburger or vegetables and I don’t like coffee. The list goes on and on. I eat like a 5 year old and it’s just something I’ve had to come to terms with.

2. I’ve never watched an entire episode of the Bachelor. When all my girlfriends (and the majority of the people I follow on Twitter) rave about what Juan Pablo did, I’m completely clueless. I do, however, love me some “Real World,” even if it couldn’t be farther from it.
3. I refused to wear jeans until the 8th grade. I lived in what my family called “swooshy” pants, you know those jumpsuit type thingys Nike and Adidas used to make. Maybe they still do?
4. My sister is the yin to my yang. We are polar opposites and I couldn’t love her more for balancing me out. Her unconditional love and ability to always know the right thing to say is what gets me through life.
5. I’m a morning person (I can hear you all gasping at this). I like to get up and get shit done. That leaves my afternoons and evenings to do the things that I love. Not just things that bring home the bacon, aka work.
6. Two of my girlfriends and I once took a greyhound bus home from Panama City Beach, FL after our “ride back” decided he was going to live there, permanently. Sixteen states and 32 torturous hours later – we made it back to Kansas.
7. I’m allergic to dogs and for whatever reason they gravitate toward me. Full size dogs suddenly become lap dogs as soon as I sit down. One of our family dogs passed away unexpectedly this week and I didn’t realize how upsetting something like this would be to me. I think sometimes my allergy gets in the way of the soft spot that I have for animals. I have something special planned for Chip that I’ll show you all soon.
8. I used to run a beer cart on a golf course. If it was offered as a full-time job with benefits, I’d probably still be there. What’s better than driving around outside, catching rays, talking with happy people and handing out booze? The answer is nothing.
9. I love scratch tickets. And I’ve also been known to get down on some blackjack on special occasions.
10. It took me over 6 years to finish college and yes, I only got one degree. At one point I wanted to be a Radiology Technician? My how things change.
Now it’s your turn. Share something interesting about yourself down in the comments or tweet me @26NotCounting. I can’t wait to read them!

p/s I’m running my first half marathon tomorrow and I think what I’m experiencing right now is a full-blown freak out. Any last minute advice? It’s GO TIME! Have a great weekend, friends!

  1. You are so cute. PS- I KNOW NOTHING about the Bachelor/Bachelorette and have zero desire to start watching, yet I’m addicted to most of the Real Housewives shows. To each their own when it comes to trash TV…? 🙂

    Happy Friday!

I love this! Especially #3 – I totally wore “swish” pants too, haha. Good luck on your half marathon – I’ve run many of them, and my best advice is to just drink up, eat some protein before you run, and enjoy it!!

I used to watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette religiously but as soon as Juan Pablo’s season aired, I was over it. And wow, #6?! That’s crazy! And hmm. I’m not that much of a picky eater. I like to try new things. I’ll hesitate, but I’ll try it. Hahah. 🙂

Okay, I knew ALL of those things, which I guess is a good thing since I am your mom. Now, let’s see if you knew all of mine…1. I was awarded the Silver Service award and pin signed by the President of the US in 2011 for my hours spent volunteering, and the Sapper Spouse award for excellence in volunteerism in 2008. 2. I served as the Family Readiness Group Leader for my hubbies Military company of 176 soldiers and their family members for nearly a year in 2010. And, I also served as the Funds Custodian for the Company unit for another six months. 3. I have spent 8 of the past 10 years serving on over 13 different volunteer committees and volunteered my time to families of service members. 4. I once met and had my photo taken with golfer Fuzzy Zeller while in Florida at a cocktail party 5. I have been out of the country only twice, once to Korea for a month, and once to London and Paris for 8 days 6. If I could do anything in the world for a job I would be a landscape photographer for home improvement type magazines. 7. My very first job was as a salad backer at a Furr’s cafeteria in KC. 8. I love to play blackjack, and once played at a $5 table in Vegas for more 13 straight hours and walked away with more than I started. 9. I have lived in 6 different states, and I have been to only 29 of the 50 states. 10. I have four amazing children, three girls and a boy, and I gave birth to the oldest three, and was blessed with the youngest by marriage, they are all over the age of 18 now.

  11. Eee! So excited for your race and LOVE everything you shared. I once signed up for a 10k with the intentions of training. Except the training part never happened and I slept through it on the day of. Am I awful or what?!

  13. I recently found your blog through ‘The Every Girl’ page on Kumbaya and I’m already hooked! 🙂 This is a great list and I especially identify with #10 as it technically took me nearly 10 years to get my degree (I first got a diploma and then went back part time to get a bachelor’s degree). All the best for your half marathon!

  19. This is so fun! I’ve never watched the Bachelor/Bachelorette either, so you’re not alone in being totally clueless about it! And don’t worry about college…it took me a while to finish too & I only got one degree and didn’t study abroad or anything special. Oh well….
